Breaking News: TV Station Says Kelvin Sampson Gone; Cavs Trade Hughes, Gooden

benwallace.jpgThough everyone else says there’s nothing conclusive to report about Kelvin Sampson, Indianapolis television station, WTHR, is reporting that Sampson will not coach another game at the university:

Indiana University is making plans to finish the basketball season without Kelvin Sampson. The coach of the Hoosiers is not expected to be with the team when they play at Northwestern Saturday.

A source close to the situation tells Eyewitness Sports that officials from the IU administration have met with assistant basketball coach Dan Dakich about taking over the basketball team as interim head coach for the rest of the season.

An IU official, Larry McIntyre, disputed some aspects of this report, but would not go on record to clarify.

For Phoenix, 30 Games Until the Truth Is Told

shaqpau.jpgThe Los Angeles Lakers were in an unenviable position last night in Phoenix. Win against and you’re supposed to because the Suns are getting acclimated to the Big Philanderer, Shaquille O’Neal. Lose, and Phoenix becomes an instant NBA media darling with O’Neal as a conquering hero.

Fortunately LA won, 130-124, led by Kobe Bryant’s 41 points. And fortunately Shaq’s biggest effect was on the back of Raja Bell’s – a perpetual-motion hack machine – head with a little less than three minutes remaining in the game. (Now for my NBA officiating crew rant…)
