New Jersey Trades Kidd to Dallas

with 22 comments

The New Jersey Nets traded Jason Kidd and Malik Allen to the Dallas Mavericks for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, DeSagna Diop, and Maurice Ager. Additionally, the Nets will receive $3 million. In a separate deal, the New Jersey is sending guard Antoine Wright to Dallas for a future second-round pick and possibly other considerations:

For New Jersey, president Rod Thorn brought back the three elements he most wanted for Kidd: a good young player (Harris), expiring contracts (Diop and George) and draft picks. What’s more, the Nets plan to buyout the rest of Stackhouse’s contract. Stackhouse can become an immediate free agent, but must wait 30 days to re-sign with Dallas. Read the rest of this entry »

Updates on Roger Clemens, Brian McNamee in Congress

with 30 comments

Update 3: Correction… On the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform website various documents can be found. Some deal with today’s testimonies while others deal with past events such as Andy Pettitte’s affidavit, Laura Pettitte’s affidavit, and the depositions of all the principals. The transcripts can be found here.

Update 2: Apparently when the depositions come out, Mark Souder (R.-In.) says he tends to believe Brian McNamee. Souder let us in on this little secret. In his deposition, Andy Pettitte said after conversations with Clemens concerning steroids and HGH, Pettitte realized he couldn’t believe Clemens anymore.

Also at least three FBI agents were in the crowd, not six as originally reported. Souder says the FBI agents will check the physical evidence first. If there is DNA belonging to Clemens there will automatically be a perjury charge. But Souder does not know if there is enough evidence beyond that which is circumstantial, for a case to be generated.

clemens.jpgRoger Cossak is mad. One of ESPN’s legal analysts Cossack said on Mike and Mike in the Morning, “It is not Congress’ job to get Roger Clemens…. This has turned into a show.” Cossack also said in it Congress duty to “set national health policy.”

And Cossack has a point.

At this point it does seem like this is a Clemens’ punishment for failing to quietly go along with former Congressman George Mitchell’s investigation findings into steroid and HGH use. Notice that Clemens is the only player to seriously challenge the findings – and is the only player to be under this kind of scrutiny.

Black History Month: Hoops is Jazz – and Jazz is Hoops

sidneybechet.jpgJazz is the only original American art form.

And basketball is the only original American sport. Many white people only see basketball as a ghetto game. Many black people see basketball as a form of love. Jazz and basketball are our blue note reminders to those white people that they brought us here from another land.

When the trumpet wails, it is a call from Africa. When the trumpet wails, it is a call from home. When the trumpet wails, we remember the Trails of Tears, too – yes, Trails. Of. Tears. When the trumpet wails, it describes the lines in our faces, etched pain of scalding tears, worn from years – of expression, depression, cultural detention. And on the court outside of the law on the hardwood where the rat-a-tat of that ball to that wood, that is our first world, while we are treated like third world visitors to a paradise called uo topos, or utopia. Or ————- “No Place.” The basketball court is our syn topos, our Some Place. Somewhere where five men to a side reside as ten and then, seek a harmony ————- together.
