IU pushing Sampson out of the door

Indiana University was to announce their decision on Kelvin Sampson at 2 p.m.. According to ESPN’s And Katz in a televised interview, the university is more than likely going to suspend Sampson without pay for the remainder of the season. The  decision is being pushed back because IU is reviewing all considerations as to who to elevate to the interim job of head coach. Katz said that the pervasive thought was that Dan Dakich would take over the IU job, but that is no necessarily true because there are other assistant coaches on the staff with head coaching experience, especially Ray McCallum.

Katz says the rumored threat of a mutiny is not true.

However, according to Sports Illustrated‘s Luke Winn, the senior leadership of the Hoosier basketball team, undoubtedly led by D.J. White, will quit if Dakich is named head coach. The team prefers McCallum over Dakich:

The source also told SI.com select players have indicated they might be willing to soften their stance on quitting if a key change was made to Greenspan’s proposed plan of succession. The school reportedly wants to anoint IU assistant Dan Dakich as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, but the players’ preferred choice is assistant Ray McCallum, who played a significant role in recruiting much of IU’s current roster. Dakich was named an assistant coach on Oct. 31 — days after former IU assistant Rob Senderoff resigned his post as a result of the NCAA’s investigation on Sampson and his staff — and did not recruit any current IU players.

(I’ll have an article on this later today or early tomorrow morning)

Photo evidence and the Rocket

So there’s a picture of Roger Clemens at Jose Canseco’s house. and the person who owns the photo was 11 years old when the picture was taken:

“…leads could include new photographic evidence that has emerged to potentially undermine Clemens’ sworn testimony that he did not attend a 1998 party at the home of his then-teammate Jose Canseco – a party that figured both in the Mitchell Report and the Feb.13 public hearing in Washington.

The photo is owned by a young man who attended the party when he was 11 years old and took photos of his baseball heroes, including Clemens. Richard Emery, one of the lawyers for Clemens accuser Brian McNamee, was aware that such evidence had been circulating this week.

“We have reason to believe it’s reliable evidence,” Emery told the Daily News on Thursday. “We believe there’s photographic evidence that shows Clemens was at a party he says he wasn’t at.”…

A Justice Department investigation could lead Clemens into the kind of lengthy, expensive and serious criminal investigation that Bonds has undergone, opening the door to the government to examine the pitcher’s claims with much broader investigative power than the committee’s attorneys used.

We’ll be watching this closely.

  2. If the pictue is true then looks like its an open shut case for perjury on Clemens part.

  5. Wow. It seems that there is so much more evidence against Clemons than there ever was against Bonds, not to mention the outright lies he keeps getting caught in. Clem-dog needs to give it up!

  6. I’m no lawyer, but I’m thinking this photo probably proves nothing. I mean, think about it. You’d have to have not only Clemens in the picture, but it would also have to be clear that the photo was taken at Canseco’s house and not somewhere else. Also, it would have to be clear that the photo was taken at the party in question, on the date in question. As in, “beyond a reasonable doubt” clear. The guy with the photo is probably telling the truth but nobody should jump to conclusions until we see copies of the photo, which seems unlikely.

  7. The funny thing to me is this, Clemens will definantly get into the Hall of Fame. Bonds probably will have to be voted in by the senior committee.

  8. I mean, the photo is probably the real deal but its hard to say whether or not it will be useful evidence.

  9. Not likely that Barry would get voted in by the Senior Committee to hear alot of the old timers talk. They’re believing most of what ESPN is spewing out. Oh yeah, they talk about due process, but you can tell when they are on talk shows, that there’s a disdain for Barry.

  10. -davidmac, kos

If Clemens or Bonds goes to prison, that along with the fact that they are both widely regarded as assholes will probably bury their chances to get voted in by the sportswriters. I would think they will get voted in by the veterans eventually, but due to the old-timers disdain for PEDs and anything PED-related they will have to wait many years until the committee is filled with guys who played in the 70s and 80s who would be more sympathetic to Bonds and Clemens. It might be a long wait.

  11. @motown

You better believe that the Rocket will get enterance into the Hall. There is no way he isn’t getting in, definantly not on the first ballot, but he will get in.

  12. DAvid,
I don’t believe that, and if you listen to any tv or radio guys, they don’t think he will either. Why do you think so, and more importantly, where’s your evidence?

  14. […] Roger might have misremembered that he was at Jose Canseco’s house, at least that’s what his attorney Rusty Hardin seems to be trying to […]
